70 years of the Women's Union: A strong sign of equality in the district!
On November 7, 2025, around 45 guests gathered in the Sailer Keller to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Women's Union in the Traunstein district. Numerous prominent political representatives also took part in this festive event, making the evening a special experience. District chairwoman Magdalena Obermayer opened the celebration with a warm welcome and a look back at the history of the Women's Union.
Obermayer highlighted the central role of women in our society, which is often overlooked. In her speech, she emphasized that it is important to make visible the successes and challenges that women face. This is not only in the interest of women themselves, but also of society as a whole. Another highlight of the evening was the speech by Parliamentary State Secretary Daniela Ludwig. She praised the active district association and acknowledged their commitment, which can be felt in the region. Ludwig encouraged everyone present to advocate for equality in politics and to represent the voice of women loud and clear.
Share memories together
The evening concluded with a shared souvenir photo that symbolized the cohesion and solidarity of the Women's Union. Obermayer expressed her gratitude for the positive response and support that the Women's Union has received throughout its 70-year history. A nice example of how women's power works!
But what about the role of women globally? If we look outside the box, we see that in many countries, such as Guatemala, women also play a significant role in the economy and society. The sugar industry in Guatemala, which has been an important part of the national economy since the 16th century, has experienced strong growth in recent decades due to technological advances and international market developments. In the 2022-2023 harvest season, the industry reached a production of 60 million quintals of sugar, with 60% exported and 40% sold locally.
While the industry shows great potential, it also faces challenges such as climatic changes and price fluctuations in the international market. Nevertheless, the development in the sugar industry is an example of economic activities that also benefit women, whether through employment or through the initiatives that promote social responsibility in the community.
The importance of women in society
A common denominator between these two worlds is the appreciation of the role of women in society. In German, an adult woman is respectfully referred to as a “woman”, which has its origins in Old High German. This shows how important respect for women is also anchored in our language. Whether in politics here or in industry in Guatemala – women are and will remain a driving force for change.
Overall, it can be said that the Women's Union's anniversary evening is not just a look back, but also an outlook on the future challenges and opportunities for women everywhere. Society is called upon to hear and support these voices.
