Baler burns in Brandstätt: Fire brigade in major attack!
On Monday, August 11, 2025, a baler in the Brandstätt district near Tacherting caught fire. The Tacherting fire department and several neighboring fire departments were alerted around 1 p.m. Fortunately, the farmer was able to get his tractor to safety from the flames, which required quick intervention because a technical defect led to the serious incident. A total loss of the baler could no longer be avoided, as operations manager Oliver Brandl reported on site. The estimated damage is in the six-figure range, but fortunately there were no injuries. Chiemgau24 reports.
The fire brigade concentrated on extinguishing the machine quickly and preventing the fire from spreading further. The situation was brought under control around 20 minutes after the start of the operation and follow-up work began. Due to the heavy smoke, several people wearing breathing apparatus were on duty, while the high temperatures posed a significant physical challenge for the emergency services.
Support from surrounding fire departments
The water supply was initially provided from the tanks of the fire engines, and later a shuttle service was set up to a nearby hydrant. Around 60 emergency services, including the fire departments from Tacherting, Emertsham, Oberfeldkirchen and Garching as well as the district fire inspection, were on site. An ambulance crew was also present, but they did not have to intervene as fortunately there were no injuries. The Trostberg police have recorded the incident and are now determining the exact cause of the fire, which is probably due to a technical defect. Rhine Palatinate reports.
Fire hazard during harvest season
The risk of fire due to technical defects in baling presses repeatedly leads to dangerous situations. A look at the recent past shows that baling presses also recently burst into flames in Westerstetten in the Alb-Donau district and in Osterberg in the Neu-Ulm district. During the harvest season, these machines run at full speed, which can lead to overheating and associated fires. In Osterberg, for example, the device caught fire during the harvest, causing property damage worth 150,000 euros. Here too, there were no injuries as a result. SWR reports.
