Stefan Mross speaks plainly: I will not live a life of abstinence!”

Stefan Mross, the well-known presenter of the ARD show “Always on Sundays”, is once again causing a sensation. The 49-year-old, who has been at home in the community for twenty years, has recently been confronted with increasing rumors about his alcohol consumption. These allegations particularly increased when Mross canceled an appearance at the Munich Oktoberfest in September 2024. He had celebrated Eva Luginger's sister's wedding the evening before, which caused a stir. According to reports, Mross was heavily intoxicated that evening and even had to be carried out of the party, which he vehemently denied afterwards. In an interview with SuperIllu, he made it clear: "I'm not going to be abstinent, I enjoy wine in moderation," and emphasized that he is no longer a party person, but that he doesn't turn down a glass at dinner. Mercury reports.

The cancellation of the Oktoberfest performance, which was planned for September 22, 2024, came as a surprise to everyone. Mross decided to cancel via text message just hours in advance, citing “logistical reasons.” This was not only met with incomprehension by the organizers; PR boss Birgit Fischer-Höper also mentioned that Mross could be deleted as a client. Marianne and Michael took his place. OE24 reports about the incidents that further damaged Mross's reputation.

Alcohol and culture

Alcohol has a special place in our society. It is often seen as an integral part of social events and has the function of reducing inhibitions and promoting social contacts. According to the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the use of alcohol is strongly influenced by culture. Every society has its own rules and rituals when dealing with the drink. The bpb describes, that in European cultures moderate consumption is accepted, but excessive drinking is firmly rejected. This issue surrounding alcohol in all its facets is also presented to the public when it comes to Mross and his current situation.

What is particularly interesting is that alcohol consumption is not only an issue for adults, but also for young people. Many young people learn how to deal with alcohol through their parents' behavior and often use it as a means of finding their identity or coping with stress. In this context, risky behavior and the acceptance of excessive alcohol consumption by media role models such as Mross can be problematic.

The situation surrounding Stefan Mross illustrates how important it is to openly discuss the issue of alcohol. Support is needed here to teach young people in particular how to use alcohol responsibly. The question is how long Mross can continue to combine his public appearances with such allegations and his excessive drinking without it leading to serious consequences for his career.
