Heat terror in Bavaria: thunderstorm warning after extreme temperatures!

The summer heat wave has Bavaria firmly under control. Already today, on July 2, 2025, temperatures will reach close to 40 degrees. The day before, the thermometer in Kitzingen indicated the highest temperature of the year at 37.8 degrees. Mayor Stefan Günter commented on the current situation and revealed that he personally prefers temperatures between 25 and 32 degrees. A heat wave that just doesn't want to end - at least so far.

Just as everyone was preparing for the sun, a violent storm hit Bavaria on the evening of July 1st, especially in Weißenburg, where many cellars were full. The situation is serious because the German Weather Service (DWD) has to issue an official warning of extreme heat on July 2nd. The northwest of Bavaria, including Aschaffenburg and Würzburg, is particularly affected. The anticipation of the announced thunderstorms that are expected in the Alps and the southern foothills of the Alps is all the more exciting.

The thunderstorms are coming!

Things could really get crazy this Friday: The DWD is already issuing advance information about severe thunderstorms. The focus is particularly on storm gusts with speeds of up to 80 km/h. Heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter is also forecast for July 2nd. The weather service is also talking about hail and even the possibility of tornadoes. Residents are urged to stay away from trees as there is a risk of lightning strikes.

But the capricious weather cannot only be observed in Bavaria. The whole of Germany is in severe weather mode as a cold front rolls in from the west. This could finally end the heat wave by Wednesday evening and bring with it even more violent thunderstorms that could affect even the hottest regions. The German Weather Service warns of flotsam, falling trees and blocked roads. The warnings have already been issued for several districts in Franconia and Swabia!

Causes of the heat wave

The current heat wave in Germany is closely related to the flow of warm air from North Africa and southwestern Europe. This is also causing record temperatures in other countries, for example in Spain with peaks of up to 47 degrees and in France with over 40 degrees. This extreme weather situation is exacerbated by high pressure areas that block the westerly wind drift, which has led to a particularly dry period since spring that favors heat waves.

The weather situation is expected to remain unstable: on Thursday only 26 degrees are expected in the northwest and up to 32 degrees in the southeast. Only isolated showers are possible on Friday. However, the risk of storms remains until the weekend Mercury, t online and BR report. The coming days promise an exciting spectacle! So if you like high temperatures and thunderstorms, you should keep an eye on your weather radar.
