Cyclist falls badly: drunk and without a helmet in Unterallgäu
A serious accident occurred in the Unterallgäu district in which a 37-year-old cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries. The incident happened near Kirchhaslach when the young man was driving down a steep road with a friend. According to reports from Borken newspaper and Allgäu newspaper, the cyclist's companion, a 56-year-old, was driving ahead and did not immediately notice the fall.
The 56-year-old stopped when the 37-year-old did not appear for a long time and also fell, landing in an adjacent garden. The resident of the garden immediately alerted the police. The rescue workers took the seriously injured 37-year-old to a hospital in a helicopter. Tragically, the cyclist in this accident was not wearing a helmet, which may have increased the severity of his injuries.
Drunk driving
The 56-year-old companion, who was also involved in the accident, had a breath alcohol level of more than two per thousand. This now has serious consequences: the police are investigating drunk driving.
As the ADAC explains, drunk driving endangers not only the safety of the driver himself, but also that of other road users. From just 0.3 per mille, the inability to drive is considered relative, and from 1.1 per mille it becomes a criminal offense.
In this case, the police will carefully examine how the accident occurred and what legal action needs to be taken against the 56-year-old. There will also be possible insurance liability in the incident, as insurance companies have different regulations for accidents under the influence of alcohol.
The incident once again serves as a stark reminder of how important it is to take responsibility and observe the legal alcohol limit when driving, whether by car or bicycle. Especially in such an environment, where driving in nature and on steep roads is part of life, you should never overlook your own well-being and that of others.
