Fairy Godmother” campaign day: Weiden is becoming more child-friendly!
There is an exciting event coming up in Weiden: On Friday, July 11th, the “Good Fairy” action day will take place in front of the Old Town Hall. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., children, kindergarten and elementary school groups and parents can look forward to a colorful program. This time it's all about promoting a child-friendly city, which is particularly evident through the commitment of local institutions. The aim is to create a safe and friendly environment for our smallest citizens.
Particularly noticeable will be the yellow logo stickers with a stick figure that will be placed on shops and facilities that are available to help children in emergency situations. This “fairy godmother” initiative is intended to give the little people of Weiden the feeling that they can always find a friendly contact person in their town. Partner organizations such as the police, fire brigade, Maltese relief service and the Bavarian Red Cross actively support this project.
With fun and action into children's lives
But what exactly can the children expect? The police will be on site with a police car and the fire department will show its fire engine. The Malteser relief service has also come up with something very special with a wheelchair course to teach children in a playful way what is important in rescue operations. The Sparkasse Oberpfalz Nord will be represented with hands-on activities, and the JUZ Weiden will be bringing a toy cart that invites you to linger and play.
In addition, children will have the opportunity to receive “fairy godmother” cards that can be provided with their parents’ contact information. This measure is intended to enable quicker contact in an emergency. A thoroughly sensible concept that provides security for both parents and children.
Why child-friendly cities are so important
The promotion of child-friendly communities has recently become increasingly important internationally. The approach goes far beyond simply organizing events. Child-friendly urban planning, as explained by Humanium, aims to realize children's rights and increase their well-being. Communities that respect children's rights enable children to actively participate in shaping their environment and are aimed at guaranteeing that every child grows up safely and healthily.
According to the UNICEF definition, child-friendly communities are those that actively work to protect children's rights. They create conditions in which children can express their opinions, participate in social life and have access to basic services. The aim is to form a community that respects and supports children in their entirety, regardless of their backgrounds.
The “Good Fairy” event is not just a one-off event, but a building block in a long-term effort to make Weiden a place where children’s spirits and rights come first. An excellent example of how community commitment can achieve something great for the smallest members of our society.
