Anita Eichhorn: Animal welfare star inspires in pastures and Sri Lanka!
Anita Eichhorn is a well-known actress who is passionate about animal welfare. Since her role in the popular series “Dahoam is Dahoam”, where she delights around 800,000 viewers every day, she has used her reach to draw attention to the fate of animals. Eichhorn is committed to animal welfare and promotes the adoption of animals from animal shelters instead of breeding animals. Her own dog, Mika, a Shih Tzu-Dachshund mix, comes from Dautersdorf and currently lives with her mother. These personal experiences shape her commitment and lead her to emphasize the importance of animals for mental health, especially among older people. This makes the role of animals in our lives even more important.
Another step in Eichhorn's commitment is her upcoming trip to... Dog Care Clinic in Sri Lanka, which will take place in mid-November 2025. There she plans to observe the situation of the animals on site and take part in daily feeding tours. The Dog Care Clinic was founded by Marina Möbius, who has been committed to animal protection since 2002 and has an impressive record of over 100,000 castrations and around 600,000 rabies vaccinations in her programs. Her extraordinary work was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2022.
Support for the Weiden animal shelter
On December 13th, Eichhorn will offer a book signing and selfie session at the Weiden animal shelter. This event, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., is intended to support the animal shelter and raise awareness that many animals are waiting for a new home. The animal protection association Weiden e. V. will be producing a calendar for 2026 from November, the proceeds of which will also benefit animal welfare. With this campaign, Eichhorn would like to help promote the adoption of animals from animal shelters and thus shows her big heart for four-legged companions.
The Dog Care Clinic in Sri Lanka is well equipped to care for up to 1,500 animals daily and also offers programs for hoofed animals. While Eichhorn is on site, she will also get to know the 50+ program. This innovative project provides dogs to poor families aged 50 and over and supports them with a monthly pension to ensure the animals are cared for. This shows how far-reaching the commitment of Eichhorn and the clinic really is - it's not just about the animals, but also about the people who want to care for them.
Anita Eichhorn on social media
Eichhorn plans to document her trip to the Dog Care Clinic on her social media channels to raise awareness about animal welfare and educate people about the realities on the ground. In a country like Sri Lanka, where street dogs are often used as status symbols and many live in extreme conditions, this public relations work is particularly important. Tanja, a supporter of the Dog Care Clinic, reports on the difficult living conditions of many animals there and emphasizes how urgently help is needed.
Overall, Anita Eichhorn is sending a strong signal for animal protection with her commitment. Her trusting connection with animals and her desire to make a difference are admirable. It remains to be hoped that their efforts can further improve both the living conditions of animals in Sri Lanka and people's awareness of animal protection in Germany.
