Weiden Citizens Festival 2025: Old Town shines in new splendor!
The Citizens' Festival in Weiden is a festival of the senses and a sense of community. On June 28th and 29th, 2025, the city will reopen its doors for the 53rd edition of this popular event in the old town. The celebrations begin on Saturday, June 28th at 6 p.m. and promise a varied program for all generations. Mayor Jens Meyer will ceremoniously open the festival and set the stage for a weekend full of music and culinary delicacies. The festival has evolved over time and is now celebrated not only on Sundays, but for the first time also on Saturday evenings in order to attract more visitors and enliven the old town. The audience seems to approve of this new concept with great applause, as shown by the feedback from the first expansion, which was also written by oberpfalzecho.de.
The Old Town becomes the center of the action on Saturday evening from 6 p.m., with different venues such as the Upper and Lower Market, side streets, Weiden-am-See-Platz, Judengasse and Mariánské Lázně Square. The music creates the flair of the festival: six stages provide a colorful range of sounds with rock, Latino, country and soul. Visitors can look forward to various bands, including a Maffay cover band and the “RockConnection”, which will delight the audience on Saturday evening. The program continues on Sunday at 11 a.m., with performances by artists such as Johnny Gold and DJ Rum. The musical offering attracts international guests, including delegations from cities such as Issy-les-Moulineaux, Macerata, Weiden am See and Grafenwöhr. Deputy Commander Dwayne Key thanked the guests for their existing friendship, which underlines the importance of such festivals that unite cities, as weiden.de also emphasizes.
Safety first
In times when security aspects at major events are increasingly coming to the fore, the citizens' festival in Weiden is also accompanied by a well-thought-out security concept. The city has adapted to the changing security situation in Germany, which is characterized by accidents and attacks. Police forces, security services, the Red Cross and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief will accompany the event to ensure the safety of the participants. Strict controls, particularly random bag checks, will be carried out to ensure a safe festival. Visitors are asked to avoid backpacks and large luggage to facilitate the security process.
The city has not only tried to provide entertaining events, but also relies on preventative measures. Residents were informed that they should park their vehicles before the traffic closures began to ensure smooth operations. The festival area will be closed from Saturday 5 p.m. to Monday 7 a.m. to ensure a safe atmosphere. Security concepts now have to take many aspects into account: from risk analyzes to evacuation planning to close cooperation with the police and emergency services. This is also noted by the platform kommunal.de, which points out the need for municipalities to constantly question and adapt their security strategies.
Culinary offerings and variety
The food stands and gastronomy presentations are another attraction of the community festival. Over 60 providers ensure culinary delights - everything from regional specialties to international delicacies. These include beer and wine, but also burgers and fish specialties that delight the palate.
The community festival in Weiden will once again become a place for encounters, celebrations and cultural exchange. It is a festival for the whole family that brings residents and guests together and demonstrates the diversity of the city. Stop by and enjoy the unique atmosphere in the old town!
