Drug dealers from Middle Franconia: 1,484 businesses uncovered on the Darknet!
A 45-year-old man from Middle Franconia is facing serious allegations: The Bamberg Public Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against him because he is said to have traded narcotics on darknet marketplaces, in particular the notorious 'Wall Street Market', since 2016. This reports Tixio.
The defendant, who operated under the pseudonym “darkweeder,” is accused of carrying out around 1,484 drug deals. According to estimates, he earned over 78,000 euros in cryptocurrencies. In addition, he is said to have earned around 100,000 euros from other transactions not included in the indictment.
Search and evidence
In January 2025, his apartment was searched, during which 4.5 kilograms of amphetamine and various weapons, including several knives, stun guns and a baton, were seized. After the search, the man is in custody. The public prosecutor's office accuses him, among other things, of armed drug trafficking, which could result in a minimum sentence of five years in prison.
The case was processed by the Bavarian Cybercrime Central Office and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office. The investigation shows that the defendant traded illegal drugs on various marketplaces in the TOR network between December 2016 and April 2024. The Bamberg regional court will decide whether to admit the charges and initiate the main proceedings, explained Law and politics.
A look at the darknet scene
More and more people are becoming aware of the shadow markets of the Darknet. These markets provide an anonymous platform for drug trafficking, with users requiring specialized software to cover their tracks. The term “Darknet” became popular in 2016 due to a shooting spree in Munich in which the murder weapon was obtained via the Darknet. The associated security debates have drawn attention to the dangers and opportunities of such marketplaces. According to reports from the Federal Agency for Civic Education Crypto markets have grown and now make up a significant part of the global drug market.
These digital marketplaces not only allow the sale of drugs, but also weapons and other illegal goods. Their anonymity allows sellers and buyers to protect their identities, which poses a challenge for law enforcement. The question arises as to how politics and society will react to these developments and what new approaches are required to deal with these innovations.
The case of the 45-year-old man highlights the challenges associated with drug trafficking on the dark web. With a charge that carries potentially long prison sentences, this trial could set an example for future proceedings as authorities continue to struggle to crack down on crime in the digital space.
