CSU Treuchtlingen presents a strong city council list – the proportion of women remains the same!
The election campaign is in full swing in the busy town of Treuchtlingen. The CSU proudly presented its city council list, which consists of 24 candidates. Among them there are experienced local politicians as well as some fresh faces. At the top of the list is the incumbent mayor Dr. Dr. Kristina Becker, who is running for city council again. However, Becker also expresses her concerns about the gross imbalance in gender distribution on the list; With only four women elected, the situation remains unchanged compared to the 2020 local elections.
The following women are represented on the list:
- Dr. Dr. Kristina Becker (59 Jahre, amtierende Bürgermeisterin, Listenplatz 1)
- Katja Schmid (51 Jahre, Industriekauffrau, Listenplatz 4)
- Daniela Neumayer (47 Jahre, Pflegefachkraft, Listenplatz 6)
- Anna Scheuer (51 Jahre, Wirtschaftsberaterin, Listenplatz 21)
The male candidates and their chances
In the top places there are also well-known names such as Uwe Linss (60 years old, car mechanic, 2nd place on the list) and Alexander Roßkopf (45 years old, financial accountant, 3rd place on the list). Younger voters can look forward to Tim Schelenz (24 years old, workshop manager, 5th place on the list), who is one of the youngest candidates on the list. The list is rounded off by various industry representatives who are on average 46 years old.
Also in the first ten places are:
- Philipp Walter (Steuerberater, Platz 7)
- Matthias Strauß (Sparkassenbetriebswirt, Platz 8)
- Michael Hampel (28 Jahre, Prokurist, Platz 9)
- Stefan Biber (53 Jahre, Bankkaufmann, Platz 10)
The list not only represents continuity, but also a generational change, which is underlined by new applicants such as the administrative IT specialist Manuel Standhartinger (37 years old, 11th place) and the construction engineer Jörg Dinkelmeyer (47 years old, 12th place). Nevertheless, there will also be changes: former mayor Wolfgang Herrmann will no longer run for the city council and will leave the body in 2026.
Challenges for women in politics
The underrepresentation of women in city councils is a major hurdle in German politics. According to a study, the proportion of women on city councils is between 24 and 39 percent, which falls far short of the desired balance. Political scientist Helga Lukoschat therefore calls for more attention and support for women in local politics in order to reduce hurdles and achieve better representation.
As the experiences of other women in politics show, challenges such as balancing work and volunteering are often concerns that plague young female candidates. 29-year-old Anna Hußmann, who is running for the CDU in Wuppertal, emphasizes that working mothers often do not find themselves in the political arena. These voices need to be heard to better represent not just women, but society as a whole.
Also Dr. Dr. Kristina Becker and Uwe Linss are optimistic about the upcoming election campaign, but recognize the work that still lies ahead of them to rally voters behind them. Your goal will be to design a policy that takes all citizens into account - especially with regard to the needs of women and young people in the city.
The fight for the votes in Treuchtlingen has begun, and it will be exciting to see how the various candidates will perform and whether they can give voters the feeling that their commitment to politics is worth it.
