Germany's U15 girls celebrate European Championship treble, boys take bronze!
The 67th European Junior Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, ended on Tuesday evening and offered exciting duels in table tennis. The German young players are particularly enthusiastic: the U15 girls secured their third title in a row with an impressive 3-0 defeat against France. A great success that once again puts the German team in the spotlight of the table tennis world. BTTV reports that the U15 boys were also able to achieve a valuable success with a bronze medal.
Although the U15 boys had to admit defeat against Italy in the semi-finals, Jonas Rinderer still showed that he is a great talent: He remained undefeated up to this point. He received further support from Samuel Kuhl, who had a record of 3:2 in doubles. A big loss for the U19 boys was the absence of the injured Manuel Prohaska, which was unfortunately reflected in their 28th place finish and relegation to the second division. Tischtennis.de highlights, that the U19 boys were only able to win one individual out of six, a clear sign that the competition at this level is very tough.
Successes of the U15 girls
The undefeated Koharu Itagaki of the U15 girls shone in the singles with a record of 8:0 and also won five wins in the doubles with Josephina Neumann. The team gave fans plenty to cheer about as the U19 girls finished in fifth place after their quarter-final loss to Ukraine. According to the BTTV website European Championship debutante Anna Walter and Lisa Wang also contributed to a strong team spirit, even though Walter was not used.
The successes of the German team are also reflected in the team lineups. The U15 girls were Koharu Itagaki, Amelie Guzi Jia, Josephina Neumann and Anna Walter. The U15 boys included Samuel Kuhl, Tien Nghia Phong, Jonas Rinderer and Lukas Wang. Mia Griesel, Eireen Kalaitzidou, Lorena Morsch, Elisa Nguyen and Lisa Wang played in the U19 girls, while Matej Haspel, Noah Hersel, Jamal Oudriss, Alexander Uhing and Lleyton Ullmann represented the U19 boys.
A look into the future
The individual competitions begin on Wednesday and expectations are high. It remains to be seen whether the players can maintain their form and perhaps bring one or two more titles to Germany. Table tennis in Reutte has also experienced a boom, and this interest in Austria could even produce new talent that will shine at international tournaments in the future.
