On Thursday a touching memorial event for the popular presenter Carlo von Tiedemann took place in Hamburg's Michel. Numerous fans, friends and relatives gathered to say goodbye to one of the most famous faces of Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), who died on June 8th in Hamburg at the age of 81. Tiedemann's family buried him in close circles, but the funeral service offered many the opportunity to share their memories and pain. The musician Lotto King Karl was also present and made hearts beat faster with his song “Hamburg, meine Pearl”. Piano entertainer Joja Wendt enriched the celebration with classical, pop and an energetic song by AC/DC, making the celebration both contemplative and entertaining.
A life full of challenges
Carlo von Tiedemann's life brought both joy and challenges. Born as Carl Ferdinand Hanns-Joachim Franz-Friedrich von Tiedemann on October 20, 1943 in Stargard in Pomerania, he went through various ups and downs. Two brain tumors, health problems and a diagnosis of amyloidosis did not stop him from living a varied and inspired life. Despite these struggles, he often warned against gambling addiction and excessive indebtedness, but at the same time lived out his passion for broadcasting for decades. He had worked at NDR since 1971 and became a mass favorite with shows like “Aktuelle Schaubude” in the 1970s.
A lasting legacy
The memorial service honored a life marked by close contact with the public and family challenges. Carlo von Tiedemann was the father of four children from three marriages. His daughters Theresa, Lisa, Nikolas and Viktoria are his lasting legacy. Over the years he hosted a variety of radio shows, including NDR 2 and NDR 90.3, and also made a name for himself as a stadium announcer at Hamburg's Volksparkstadion.
