On the night of July 13, 2025, a shocking incident occurred in Hamburg, more precisely in the Bramfeld district. Outside a hookah bar, an 18-year-old man was shot several times while in the middle of an argument between several men. This incident occurred around 1 a.m. and was to have serious consequences.
Just as the fire brigade returned from a mission at the Bundeswehr hospital, they witnessed the altercation. Shortly after this observation, shots were fired and chaos broke out. The injured man managed to escape bleeding to a neighboring graduation party, where he was picked up by worried guests. They immediately called the emergency number, whereupon the injured person was taken to a hospital. Fortunately, his life is not in danger, which calms the situation somewhat, but the background to the crime remains unclear.
Emergency services and investigations
The police reacted immediately and arrived with a large contingent that cordoned off the surrounding area. The cordons lasted late into the night, while numerous patrol cars and heavily armed SEK officers were on duty. The emergency services interviewed witnesses and secured all relevant evidence. So far, however, there is no information about the others involved in the violent incident.
Shootings in such a central location raise questions, not only about safety in the area, but also about general trends in crime in Hamburg. According to the Hamburg police Violent crime rose by 10.7% in 2023, which is particularly worrying in districts such as St. Georg and St. Pauli. Bramfeld, where the incident occurred, is not far from these hot spots.

In total, the Hamburg police recorded 234,241 crimes in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 10.9% compared to the same period last year. Particularly alarming are the increases in robbery offenses in St. Georg, which rose by 21%, as well as grievous bodily harm, which rose by 22% there. These developments challenge the police and the city society to take measures to increase security in Hamburg.
The background to the shooting in front of the shisha bar must now urgently be clarified in order to prevent further acts of violence and to strengthen the feeling of security among the population. While the investigation is ongoing, the issue of safety in Hamburg's neighborhoods remains a key issue.
