Customs in Hamburg strike: 5 kilos of cocaine discovered in a suitcase!

The fight against drugs has taken an alarming turn in Hamburg. Recently, officers from the main customs office in Hamburg discovered a considerable amount of cocaine in the luggage of a traveler who arrived by bus from Paris. During a routine check at the ZOB Hamburg, 5,190 grams of cocaine were found in the luggage of a Portuguese national, as Bild reports. A sniffer dog confirmed the suspicion, which led to an intensive examination of the suitcase. A false bottom where the drugs were hidden was discovered and police arrested the suspect. Criminal proceedings have been initiated and the investigation is being carried out by the Hamburg Customs Investigation Office, coordinated by the Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office.

But this is not the first customs coup in recent times. As early as June 16, 2025, emergency services from the Hamburg Customs Investigation Office were able to seize almost 600 kilograms of cocaine. This enormous amount was hidden in a fruit container from South America. Based on a tip from authorities in the Dominican Republic, an inspection was carried out which led to this significant seizure. The street value of the cocaine was estimated at 24 million euros. Evidence even points to a possible connection to an attack in Saxony in 2024. Here too, criminal proceedings were initiated, and further investigations are also being carried out by the Hamburg customs investigation office, as can be found on Zoll.de .

Fight against drug-related crime

Combating drug-related crime is not only a local but also an international challenge. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, actively dealing with organized crime and illegal drugs is one of the authority's most important tasks. Organized groups profit enormously from the illegal profits from the drug trade, with cocaine, heroin and other drugs being highly available in Germany. Although numerous successes have been achieved in recent years, the pressure on the drug scene remains high. The BKA has comprehensive legal tasks to combat drug-related crime and is also monitoring the challenges posed by new psychoactive substances that are increasingly being sold on the Internet.

The current developments in Hamburg clearly show how important the work of the authorities is in this regard. The seizures and arrests are part of a larger fight against a threat that endangers not only individual well-being, but also societal security. Given the high supply of illicit drugs, it remains crucial to address these challenges with determination.
