Fire department in Rotenburg breaks world record on the Highwalk Bridge!
In an impressive race for the world record, the Rotenburg an der Fulda fire department performed brilliantly. Five brave firefighters mastered the challenge of running ten kilometers across the spectacular Highwalk pedestrian suspension bridge - all in full gear. They only needed 55 minutes and 32 seconds n-tv reported.
The bridge, which can be found in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, is considered Germany's second-longest pedestrian suspension bridge. With a length of 617 meters and a height of up to 60 meters, it is not only an architectural masterpiece, but also a real challenge for the firefighters. The full equipment weighed up to 25 kilograms and included a helmet, protective clothing, boots, gloves and a breathing apparatus.
Training intensity and challenges
The firefighters had prepared carefully and trained on the bridge several times a week. The run was particularly challenging due to the swaying construction and the steep incline at the end of the route. This not only tested the physical fitness of the participants, but also their mental strength and teamwork. The outstanding effort was crowned on September 21, 2025 with the new record, which was set in the category “Fastest 5X2 kilometer relay in personal fire protection equipment on a suspension bridge”.
The previous record was set in January 2025: At that time, five firefighters needed around one hour and one minute on the longest pedestrian suspension bridge, the Skywalk in Willingen. FFH shows that the team in Willingen had put in great effort and meticulous planning, while the Rotenburg firefighters broke their record after just two months of hard work and training.
The importance of volunteering
This impressive sporting achievement is also inextricably linked to a cause: the Rotenburg fire department would like to use its world record to draw attention to the importance of volunteer work. At a time when many young people are distracted by a lack of leisure activities, the fire department is setting an example for solidarity and the values of volunteerism.
Overall, a top performance that not only shows the firefighters' skills, but also sets a good example of team spirit and commitment. A big thank you to the fire department, whose efforts not only break records but also enrich the community. The certificates for this great achievement were handed over to the firefighters on site, which crowned the successful day. For the sake of completeness: The longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Germany, the Skywalk in Willingen, measures 665 meters and hangs around 100 meters above the ground - but that is a challenge for the next season!
