Lindner Hotel in Frankfurt insolvent: What happens to 850 jobs?

In Frankfurt, the signs point to a storm for the Lindner Hotel at Bolongarostrasse 100. The renowned hotel chain has filed for bankruptcy, which is more than uncertain for the future of the hotel, which has been established in Höchst for almost 30 years. Anyone who wants to book a room here can so far give the all-clear: Overnight stays can still be booked online, the rooms and suites are still available, as fr.de reports. But the developments raise questions.

The application to open insolvency proceedings under self-administration was submitted to the Düsseldorf District Court at the end of 2024. Around 850 jobs are at risk. Lindner-Hotels AG, which operates a widespread network of around 30 hotels in several European countries, is facing enormous challenges. A fraction of the chain, which operates under the “Me and All Hotels” label, was taken over by the Hyatt Group in mid-2023 and is not affected by the bankruptcy, while the group's remaining 13 hotels in Germany must still remain in the game, as before frankfurtflyer.de notes.

The path to bankruptcy

The causes are complex. High losses of around 10 million euros each in 2020 and 2021 and expensive leases with long terms have led to financial distress. Added to this are the general challenges of the hotel and catering scene, which according to merkur.de is in a better position compared to other sectors, but is still experiencing sharp increases costs and uncertain market developments.

In this respect, the strategic step of entering into a partnership with the Hyatt Group can be seen as an attempt to counteract the threatening situation. However, extensive renovation work showed that the Lindner hotels did not meet the Hyatt Group's high standards. However, hopes that this cooperation will lead to sustainable stabilization are now even more shaky.

The future uncertain

However, there is currently no reason to panic: a Lindner spokeswoman is positive about possible solutions for the location and assures that operations will continue as normal for the time being. From July 1, 2025, the Höchster Lindner Hotel will be managed by an Operations Manager without its own director. Rumors that the hotel could close as early as September 30, 2025 have not yet come true, which may give guests a sense of normality amidst the uncertainty.

The situation remains tense and it remains to be seen whether the announced solutions are actually tangible. It looks like the road for the Lindner Hotel in Frankfurt will be rocky, but perhaps not impassable. The next few months could be decisive in determining how the situation develops. One thing is clear, however: the hotel market is struggling more than ever with its own demons.
