Pastor Michael Möller (60) died: Farewell to a humanitarian

Pastor Michael Möller died on August 15, 2025 at the age of 60, and the news shocked many people in the region. After a long, serious illness, the popular pastor has found his final rest. A person who touched many hearts in 30 years of his priesthood leaves a large gap in the parish of St. Bartholomew in Hilders that will be difficult to fill.

Born on December 6, 1964 in Fulda, Pastor Möller spent his childhood and youth in Veitsteinbach. After graduating from the Winfriedschule in Fulda in 1984, he began training as an industrial clerk before entering the Fulda seminary in 1990. He completed his theological studies in Fulda and Passau, where he acquired the knowledge necessary to work as a priest. On June 30, 1996, he was ordained a priest by Archbishop Johannes Dyba and began his pastoral journey in the parish of St. Bonifatius in Kassel.

A life of service to the community

Until 1998, Möller worked as a chaplain in the parish of St. Bonifatius. His further stations took him to the parishes of Christkönig Edelzell-Engelhelms and Hl. Dreifaltigkeit Pilgerzell, where he worked until July 2002. He owes his reputation as a loving pastor not only to his warmth, but also to his commitment to staging the Hilders Passion Play, which enriches the cultural life of the region. In August 2002 he took over the office of pastor of the parish of St. Margareta in Margretenhaun, followed by his position as pastor of the parish of St. Bartholomew in Hilders, which he has held since 2009.

His many years as president of the KAB in Pilgerzell from 1999 and his responsibility as deputy dean in the Margretenhaun deanery, and later in the Rhön deanery until 2013, demonstrate his deep commitment to the Catholic community. His open and friendly nature made him a valued contact for community members.

Farewell and funeral ceremonies

On August 18, a rosary will take place at 1:30 p.m. in St. Bartholomew's Church in Hilders, followed by a requiem at 2 p.m. The following day, August 19th, another funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Church of St. Vitus in Veitsteinbach. The burial will then take place in the cemetery in Veitsteinbach.

As we think back on Michael Möller's life and work, he remains in our memories as a person who always had a keen eye for the needs of his community. The loss will be felt strongly in the region. All the more, everyone is invited to say goodbye and celebrate together in the church services what defined him: his love for God and for people.
