Emergency service revolution: Four new guards for Fulda from 2026!

From January 1, 2026, there will be a noticeable improvement in the emergency services in the Fulda district: four new rescue stations will be put into operation in Flieden, Großenlüder, Hünfeld and Hosenfeld. This was decided by the responsible authorities in order to optimize emergency medical care in the region. For citizens, this means better accessibility and faster deployment of rescue workers.

The new guards will be staffed with an ambulance 24 hours a day. This will increase the total number of emergency vehicles in the district to over 27 ambulances, two ambulances and four emergency medical vehicles. A clear advantage that will be realized through a clever two-stage plan until 2026, as well as the creation of an additional 22,000 reserve hours.

Locations and operators

The East Hesse News further informs that the Kleinlüder location will be closed to make room for the new guards. While the German Red Cross (DRK) will operate the guards in Flieden and Hünfeld, the Malteser Relief Service will take the guards in Großenlüder and Hosenfeld under their wing.

The structural planning is already well advanced. The guard station in Großenlüder will be housed in an existing building, which is both sustainable and cost-efficient. In addition, the new location of the guard in Hosenfeld was created by a local business owner, which is an additional delight for the regional population.

Positive feedback from mayors

The mayors of the affected communities have consistently commented positively on the new rescue stations. They particularly emphasize the importance of security of supply and reducing response times in an emergency. At a time when quick action can be vital, expanding emergency services is an excellent step for the entire region.

In connection with the new developments in the rescue service, it is also interesting to know that a nationwide analysis of the performance of the rescue service is carried out every four years. According to a recent study conducted by the Federal Highway Research Institute was commissioned, the deployment rate fell in the last survey period, but the emergency rate remains high. Over 5.8 million operations were recorded in Germany's metropolitan regions in 2020/21, a number that underlines the need for an efficient rescue infrastructure.

The new rescue stations not only increase the number of rescue vehicles, but also increase confidence in a fast and effective emergency system. The Fulda district is showing that it will continue to have a good hand for the health and safety of its population in the future.
