A big celebration for the heroes of the foster families in the Giessen district!

A big thank you to the foster families: The Gießen district's foster child service recently invited people to a summer party in the Fernwald small animal park. The occasion was not only to celebrate time outdoors, but also to express appreciation for all the great work these families do. In his speech, Head of Social Affairs Frank Ide emphasized the important role of foster parents in our society and thanked them for their commitment.

The festival had a varied program to offer. Clown Ichmael entertained the little ones with an exciting hands-on circus show, while make-up artist Pinserella transformed the children into imaginative mythical creatures. Craft activities encouraged creative development and covered wagon rides also provided great fun. The Gießen district currently supports 117 foster homes and looks after 153 foster children, which only further illustrates the requirements and challenges in foster family work.

The Importance of Foster Families

The number of foster children in the Gießen district is considerable. According to the Giessener Anzeiger, a total of 166 foster children are accommodated in the district. The challenges that come with this responsibility should not be underestimated. Foster families are often faced with the task of integrating children with traumatic experiences into family life. Information from Ärzteblatt shows that many foster children struggle with psychological and cognitive impairments, and around 30-60% of them have mental disorders that require treatment.

Frank Ide and Gerhard Pitz, First Alderman of Fernwald, pointed out the tireless passion that foster parents put into their tasks. The need for suitable foster families is increasing and the search for new foster homes is a constant challenge, as Isminur Kocas-Kocal, team leader of the foster child service, emphasized.

The social responsibility associated with caring for children is high - and the appreciation for these families could not be greater. A big thank you to all the foster parents who do outstanding work every day! The summer festival in the small animal park is not only a sign of thanks, but also a clear indication of the ongoing search for new foster parents and the challenges and joys that come with it.
