Gallusmarkt in Grünberg: New faces pass the acid test!
On October 16, 2025, the 545th Gallusmarkt in Grünberg took place for the first time in a fully occupied marquee. Philipp Jöckel was introduced as the new train marshal, supported by Mayor Florian Faust and Sascha Prochazka, chairman of the Gallus Market Commission. This solemn occasion was opened with a ceremony that demonstrated a sense of tradition and honored Thomas Siek, Gerd Lippert and Armin Schäfer after 20 years of loyal service. The honorees were appointed honorary commission chairmen, honorary mayors and honorary platoon marshals and were also given the snappy title “Gallmärtdäppler”. Gerd Lippert was touched by the award and was almost speechless.
The event was musically accompanied by the sonorous entry march, which was performed by the band “Böhmische 7”. Prochazka took the opportunity to make humorous comments about Mayor Marcel Schlosser and the neighboring town of Laubach, which the delegation from Laubach received with a smile and was already looking forward to the upcoming committee party. Another highlight of the event was the announcement by Märtfraa Tina Konz that she would build an airport in the new commercial area near Lumda. Florian Faust insisted on comparing the prices of the old building advice and information center with the Berlin airport and called it a “black hole” of cost control.
A colorful program
But the Gallusmarkt doesn't just offer festive ceremonies. In the days surrounding the event, the traditional folk festival comes to life. The market is known for its extensive program, which again this year leaves nothing to be desired. On Friday, October 10th, the 54th Upper Hessian art exhibition began in the Barfüßerkloster, musically accompanied by the Grünberger accordion orchestra. The exhibition is open until October 19th and brings art lovers together to enjoy the works of 29 artists who have creatively implemented the theme of “market events”.
On Saturday, October 11th, visitors were drawn to the children's festival with the “Grimmicher Bobbekist”, while the adults had the traditional bock beer evening with the party band “Wanda”. The following Sunday, the Gallusmarkt was ceremoniously opened with a large livestock exhibition, followed by Sunday shopping in the city center and an old town festival that attracted numerous families.
Celebrations and Attractions
The lantern parade took place on Tuesday, October 14th, followed by the official market opening by local citizen Marcel Schlosser and the spectacular “Mega-Giant Fireworks”. Another highlight that guarantees a full marquee is the grocer's market on Wednesday, which, following a long tradition, opened its doors at 9 a.m. and invited visitors to feast with up to 200 market stalls and culinary delicacies.
This colorful diversity of the Gallusmarkt not only shows the tradition in Grünberg, but also the community and togetherness that connects the people here. The festival, which can certainly compete with the famous Oktoberfest in Munich, remains an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
