Gold treasure from Iran: couple surprised by 4,100 euro offer!

Ilona and Bernd Kogranski from Johannisberg cried their way into the hearts of the viewers during the current episode of the ZDF program “Bares für Rares”. They offered a special gold treasure, a jewelry set that has caused many emotions in the past. It is a necklace and bracelet made of 900 gold that the husband purchased for his sister during a visit to Tehran in the 1960s. However, this magnificent set has been sitting in a drawer for decades, waiting to receive some attention again. “We didn’t think it would be worth so much,” said the couple about the surprising expert assessment.

Patrick Lessmann's expert assessment was a real eye-opener for the couple. While they originally hoped for a selling price of around 1,500 euros, the expert estimated the value of the jewelry set at an impressive 4,100 to 4,200 euros, with the material value alone being around 3,900 euros. Their emotions ranged from bewilderment to joy when the set was ultimately sold to Susanne Steiger from Cologne for exactly 4,100 euros. Bernd Kogranski expressed his satisfaction with the excellent result of the sale. “I would never have dreamed of that,” he added happily.

A look into the history of gold jewelry

Gold jewelry has a long and venerable history, dating back to the earliest civilizations. To this day, gold represents wealth, power and beauty and has achieved a special place in many cultures. In Egypt, for example, gold was considered a symbol of divine immortality, which is why pharaohs were buried with elaborate gold jewelry. Even in ancient times, different cultures such as the Egyptians, the Mesopotamians and the Greeks developed different forging techniques that made gold jewelry something very special, such as granulation or filigree work.

The Renaissance teachings radiated into the design of jewelry, where artists such as Benvenuto Cellini created masterpieces that were considered true works of art. The Baroque period saw its peak in opulent jewelry, often adorned with diamonds and colored gemstones. This artistry continues to leave its mark in contemporary gold jewelry today, where many jewelers combine traditional techniques with modern, innovative approaches.

The Kogranskis' gold jewelry is not just a pretty jewelry set, but also part of a fascinating tradition that has been passed down over millennia and continues to this day in the production of unique pieces of jewelry. The couple's emotions on this special day in the ZDF show are beautiful proof of how valuable memories and the stories behind the jewelry can be. Perhaps the reason why Bernd and Ilona were so moved lies precisely in this: the certainty that their heirloom will now write a new history.

For all jewelry lovers, this episode is an impressive example of how gold has not only material but also emotional value.
While “Cash for Rares” entertains, it also conveys a piece of history about the valuable objects that accompany our lives.
