Biebesheim youth fire brigade triumphs and calls for more participants!
The annual district championship for youth fire departments recently took place in Biebesheim am Rhein. But the number of participants was still modest: only seven of 32 youth fire departments were represented. Although this is an increase compared to the previous year, when only five teams took part, there was still disappointment about the low participation. Simone Kaiser, the organizer of the event, was blunt and wanted more teams. Her colleague Tim Kaiser called on the participants to actively promote the competition in order to attract a larger number of teams next year.
The district championship is not just a competition, but also an opportunity for the youth fire departments to show their skills in the fire department. This year, the Berkach youth fire department was one of the big winners and won two out of three possible trophies. This underlines the importance of such competitions for promoting young people in the fire service. The district children's and youth fire brigade actively supports the local fire departments in learning the necessary exercises, which offers a clear incentive for the young people.
Competition formats and support
The area of competitions within the youth fire brigade is complex. Competition elements range from the national competition, which at the federal level is equivalent to the German championship, to international competitions in which teams from many countries compete against each other. These competitions are not only an exciting challenge for young people, but also an opportunity to develop themselves further German youth fire brigade emphasized. In addition, individual proof of performance such as the performance bar or the youth flame are offered in different levels.
The competitions are carefully structured. They usually consist of several parts in which both speed and correct execution of the exercises are assessed. At the district championships in Biebesheim, the main components are carrying out a fire attack and a relay race over 400 meters. The focus is not on tactical training, but on firefighting training, as is also the case on the side of the Thuringia youth fire brigade is presented.
Although the competition in Biebesheim has a small number of participants, the enthusiasm of those involved is undiminished. The youth leaders, many of them former participants themselves, are motivated to continue doing good business in the future and to inspire young people to join the fire department. So it remains to be hoped that the advertising for the district championship will bear fruit next year and that more teams will want to demonstrate their skills. Until then, the competition will remain an integral part of the training and leisure activities of the youth fire brigades.
