Burglars with green gloves: Gas station in Eiterfeld in their sights!
A rumor is making the rounds: Gas stations in the region are a hot target for burglars. In the last few weeks there have been two break-ins at a gas station on Eiterfelder Marktstrasse in the Fulda district. How osthessen-news.de reported, the first break-in happened on October 25, 2025, shortly after midnight. The perpetrators gained access by prying open the front door and stole cigarettes worth several thousand euros. The resulting material damage is estimated at around 10,000 euros.
Just a few weeks later, on November 20, 2025, another incident occurred. Despite the short amount of time between the two break-ins, the crimes do not appear to be identical. While a single perpetrator acted in the first case, at the second crime scene three male people were observed who were dressed in dark clothing and were conspicuously wearing green gloves. Here, too, they left the town with tobacco products whose value was in the lower five-figure range. The material damage accumulated again to around 10,000 euros. The owner of the gas station does not want to comment on the incidents.
Increased security measures
In view of these incidents, the gas station owner has already reacted: In order to prevent further theft, the sale of tobacco products will be temporarily stopped. In the meantime, security measures such as the installation of a fogging system and anti-burglary shutters are being planned. The day before there was also a break-in at a supermarket in Obersuhl, where tobacco products were also stolen. There were similarly brazen perpetrators here, but it is currently not known whether there is a connection between the crimes.
Short-term trends in crime
Interesting information: A look at the police crime statistics 2024 shows a decline in gas station robberies. 513 robberies were registered in 2024, the lowest level since reunification. This is in contrast to the years 2022 and 2023, when robberies increased again due to the easing of the Corona measures. It is not uncommon for secure cash register systems to become the target of criminals during night closing times. However, these robberies appear to be of a different quality than the burglaries we are currently witnessing.
Witnesses urgently sought
Back to the current burglaries. The police have already started an investigation and are hoping for information from the public. The Criminal Investigation Department in Heinsberg asks that you report any relevant information. The number of robberies may have fallen, but the burglars who are currently active in the region are apparently making a good business out of the concern of their fellow human beings.
So if you are walking through the streets of Eiterfeld or the surrounding area in the evening and notice something suspicious, do not hesitate to contact the relevant police station - even if the decline in burglaries could represent a positive turn for the region. However, daily life remains in turmoil due to such incidents.
