A7 after truck fire near Fulda: traffic jams, fire brigade and high damage!
A dramatic incident shut down the A7 in East Hesse on Wednesday morning. A truck trailer caught fire for reasons that are still unclear, which led to a months-long closure in the direction of Kassel. Loud hessenschau The driver of the trailer, the 57-year-old man, was able to steer his vehicle onto the hard shoulder in time and uncouple the trailer, which prevented anything worse from happening.
A total of 21 tonnes of worktops were loaded in the trailer when the fire broke out. The fire was probably caused by a technical defect in the axle. Despite the intensive efforts of the Homberg fire department, which was alerted at around 2 a.m., the extinguishing work faced a major challenge. The driver's cab was already fully ablaze when the emergency services arrived and the fire had already spread to the load. In order to reach the source of the fire, firefighters even had to cut holes in the outside wall of the truck.
Rescue and clean-up work
The extinguishing work lasted until the early hours of the morning and finally ended at 7 a.m. The fire department received support from a rescue company and the Wernswig fire department. While the fire brigade worked intensively against the fire with wetting and foaming agents, the Knüllwald fire brigade created an oil barrier because fuel had also leaked. In the meantime, a kilometer-long traffic jam had formed and the police had to urgently appeal to road users to keep the emergency lanes clear so as not to hinder the rescue work.
Traffic was redirected at the Fulda-Nord junction, but this only improved the situation to a limited extent.
After the highway was completely closed for about five hours, the left lane was reopened at 8 a.m. Cleaning of the other lanes is expected to last until midday, reported HNA. The police estimate the damage caused by the incident to be in the high five-figure range, although no injuries have been reported so far.
Once again it shows how important it is to act quickly in traffic. Road users are reminded to always exercise vigilance and follow the instructions of authorities to avoid such dramatic scenarios. The entire traffic situation is now being closely monitored to ensure that traffic flows smoothly again as quickly as possible.
