Drunk driver flees from the police in Kassel with a blood alcohol level of 2.4!

On Sunday night there was a spectacular incident in Kassel that shows how quickly a small exit can become a serious threat to other road users. A 40-year-old man from Kassel was driving with a blood alcohol level of more than 2.4 per mille, putting himself and others at great risk. Driving at speeds of over 80 km/h, he ran a red light at the intersection of Ludwig-Mond-Straße and Frankfurter Straße, which prompted a police patrol. As HNA reports, the driver, who understandably did not want to deal with the consequences of his drunkenness, tried to escape and took another red light, which almost led to an accident with another road user, who prevented something worse from happening by braking hard.

The pursuit ended in the parking lot of a discount store on Tischbeinstrasse, where the delinquent was finally arrested. The investigation, as is usual in such incidents, is ongoing and the man now has to answer for several violations: He is accused of drunk driving, prohibited motor vehicle racing and dangerous driving. His driver's license and the vehicle were confiscated. This obviousness impressively shows how important it is to always keep an eye on your own responsible behavior on the road.

Drinking and driving – the risk in traffic

Alcoholic drinks and driving just don't mix. Not only have the police and the courts internalized this, but numerous studies have also shown that drunk driving often leads to dangerous situations. An example that is relevant to the current case: In the case of an accident involving a drunk driver, the “prima facie evidence” suggests that high blood alcohol levels were ultimately the cause of the accident, even if the other road user had previously acted in a traffic-contrary manner - according to the Coburg Regional Court in a ruling. These legal frameworks are important to understand when it comes to your own driving license and the associated obligations.

As the cases of drivers with high alcohol levels show, the consequences are often serious. At 1.92 per mille, for example, depending on the circumstances, a person who caused an accident will be examined by the judges under the conditions of participation in group discussions and psychological counseling (MPU) in order to regain their driving license. These aspects impressively underline that the responsible use of alcohol while driving has not only a personal but also a legal dimension.

  • Fahrverbot und MPU bei über 1,6 Promille
  • Schadenersatzansprüche bei betrunkenen Unfallverursachern
  • Regelungen bei unverschuldeten Unfällen und alkoholbedingter Fahruntauglichkeit

It remains to be hoped that the incident in Kassel is a wake-up call for many drivers: If you have alcoholic drinks in the evening, you should always have a plan B ready - be it a taxi or leaving your car behind. After all, there is nothing more important than road safety. Anyone who thinks that “a glass is enough” should remember that even small amounts can cloud the head and thus pose a great danger to themselves and others.
