Who would have thought that happiness could be measured? The South German Class Lottery (SKL) has with its current Happiness Atlas conducted a survey that shows how satisfied people in Germany are with their lives. There were almost 14,000 respondents, and the result is fascinating: 48 percent of participants feel “highly satisfied”. This satisfaction was determined using a scale of 0 to 10, and the average values provide an interesting insight into the quality of life in different federal states.
Let's take a look at the top performers in this satisfaction ranking: Hamburg, known for its lively culture and open atmosphere, leads the field. Bayern can be happy about second place, while Baden-Württemberg finds itself in midfield. At the other end of the scale, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has the lowest satisfaction, which raises the question of what's going wrong.
The Happy Cities
But not only federal states, but also cities were examined. Kassel claims to be the happiest city in Germany, while Mannheim, Stuttgart and Freiburg only take places 17, 19 and 21 in the ranking.
