Pinktober starts: Campaigns against breast cancer in the Kassel district!
October has more to offer than just falling leaves. In Germany, this month is known as “Pinktober,” a sign to raise awareness about breast cancer. Around 70,000 women suffer from this insidious disease every year, and especially now, as the days are getting shorter, it is time to give this topic more space.
The initiative comes from the Kassel district, where the women's representative, Anette Milas, is planning numerous events. These actions take place in close cooperation with various organizations, including Landfrauen, Kasseler Sparkasse and Mammografie Screening Nordhessen. On Saturday, October 4th, we can admire pink bras, banners and posters for the first time in communities such as Heimarshausen, Dörnberg and Altendorf.
Together for enlightenment
The support of community and church representatives shows how important it is to bring this issue into the focus of society. Information stands in Ehlen, Wolfhagen and Ahnatal offer those affected and interested the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information. If you would like a small snack during the information visit, you can stop by the waffle stands in various locations. Culinary and education – a successful combination!
The highlight of the week is without a doubt the lecture by gynecologist Petra Janssen, which will take place on Tuesday, October 7th, at the family center in Hoof. In addition, an emotional reading by Kristine Bilkau on Friday, October 10th in Holdhenners Hus will provide another important exchange about the illness.
Strong network for those affected
October is the ideal time to raise awareness of the challenges and support for women with breast cancer. Statistically, one in eight women will develop breast cancer, and early detection can increase the chances of survival by up to 83% over a ten-year period. Therefore, respectful treatment of the women affected is essential, as is support from large companies and society as a whole
For anyone who would like to find out more about the diverse campaigns, please refer to the important initiative of Pink Ribbon Germany. Among other things, creative campaigns are initiated here, each of which aims to draw attention to the importance of early breast cancer detection. Whether in the form of press work or social activities – a strong network for women is being built here that extends far beyond October.
To culminate the activities, a meeting will take place on Saturday, October 25th, bringing together all participants and supporters. These include rural women's associations, the Alliance Against Breast Cancer and many other organizations that work together for a good cause.
Pinktober in Germany shows us that we as a society have to stick together and create awareness for topics that often remain hidden. These movements are essential to make the voices of those affected heard and to provide help. It is up to us to raise awareness and act.
