Matthias Steiner's unique path

Matthias Steiner, born in Vienna and raised in Obersulz in Lower Austria, has overcome many hurdles in his career. He began weightlifting in 1995 and was influenced in his early years by his father, Friedrich Steiner, a 20-time IWF Masters World Champion. In 2001 and 2002, Matthias won two bronze medals at the European Junior Championships before his first Olympic experience in Athens in 2004, where he finished 7th.

His personal life was marked by tragedy, including his marriage to Susann, who died in a car accident in 2007. Despite these difficult times, Steiner stuck to his training and was able to come back several times. In particular, his remarkable victory at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, where he won the gold medal, will remain unforgettable. He lifted an impressive 461 kg and was accompanied by a photo of his late wife.

Psychology of peak performance

Steiner's success is not only due to his physical strength. The In-Mind platform illuminates the psychological aspects of top sporting performance. Techniques such as mindful breathing, optimal sleep and innovative training methods such as virtual reality training play a central role. The pressure not only on athletes, but also from family support and audience interactions, is a key theme in the discussion of the “Olympic Mind.”

With the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris and the challenges that await athletes there, Steiner's scope of action is more relevant than ever and at the event in Wetzlar he offers valuable advice on how to perform at the highest level, both psychologically and physically.
