Digital building application becomes mandatory: Main-Kinzig-Kreis focuses on efficiency!

In a few days, on September 1, 2025, the digital process for building applications will become standard in the Main-Kinzig district. The times when building applications had to be submitted in paper form are finally coming to an end, as acceptance of traditional documents ends on August 31st. This brings good news for all builders and architects in the region. A progressive step that is intended to significantly increase efficiency and transparency in the building permit process. The legal basis has also been created: The Hessian building regulations now allow digital applications, which makes this transition easier and uncomplicated.

Since January 1st, the Main-Kinzig district was the first district in Hesse to introduce digital building applications across the board. As vorsprung-online.de reports, the first test phase started in April 2024 with various architectural offices via the Hessen construction portal (DigiBauG). Since 2023, building applications can even be submitted completely digitally, which represents huge progress. The new procedures are not only more user-friendly, they also enable a complete digital representation of the entire building application process.

Optimized processes for everyone involved

The digital building application brings optimizations to internal processes and significantly simplifies digital communication. An application assistant is available to users, which makes it easier to put together the required construction templates. Not only builders, but also the authorities involved benefit from a transparent process and faster processing. So far in 2024, around 2,000 approval procedures have been processed in the Main-Kinzig district, which underlines the need for digitalization.

From September, all application documents for construction projects requiring approval must be submitted exclusively via the Hessen construction portal. Access to this is easy: You can access it via the Main-Kinzig-Kreis website under the menu item “Living Situations/Construction and Living”. Accompanying information and explanatory videos are available to make it easier to get started with the new system.

Joint efforts and challenges

The introduction of this digital system is the result of extensive collaborations. District offices, the company Prosoz, ekom21 and the Hessian Ministry of Economics have combined their experiences in the testing process and offer a solid basis for designing the new digital path efficiently. Despite these positive developments, challenges were also identified, particularly in interfaces with other authorities and in software improvements.

The coming weeks will show how well the transition to digital building applications will work in the Main-Kinzig district. But the signs are good for a smooth process that could have a positive impact on building culture throughout the district.
