Reading Summer 2025: Discover the treasure in the book jungle in Nidderau!

In Nidderau it will be exciting again this year for all young bookworms: The Support Association of the Nidderau City Library e.V. is organizing the Reading Summer 2025 under the motto “Find your treasure in the book jungle”. From July 1st to August 23rd, 2025, children and young people have the opportunity to develop their reading skills in a playful way and win great prizes.

The main goal of the Reading Summer is to awaken the joy of reading and to strengthen the reading skills of the participants. Girls and boys aged 6 to 16 are welcome to take part in the event. They have to borrow a book from the city library and read it in order to be actively involved in the competition. To further increase the enjoyment of reading, there are incentives such as vouchers from the popular ice cream parlor “Eisbegehrung” and the Nidderau paper center, which will be raffled off among the participants.

Taking part is very easy

The conditions for participation are simple: After reading, the children fill out a so-called “peephole template” in which they rate their favorite book. Younger participants can also rely on the support of older siblings or parents. To make the whole thing even more creative, a picture of your favorite book is also expected. The peepholes submitted will be displayed in the library and will be entered into the raffle.

The necessary documents, including the peephole template and the registration form, can be accessed both directly in the city library and online. It is important that submissions be made by August 23, 2025 at the latest. The project has enjoyed growing popularity since 2012 and is also being supported this year by Sparkasse Hanau.

Promoting reading in context

The Reading Summer is not only fun, but also an important component in promoting reading, which is essential for the development of children. How the BMBF explains, good reading skills are crucial for education and active participation in life. Committed actors in various areas are committed to improving the language and reading skills of children in Germany. These projects provide early access to books and open up the world of reading to the little ones.

Current initiatives, such as the “Reading Start 1-2-3” program, include comprehensive support that is used in nationwide projects. In total, millions of reading start sets have already been distributed to help families and especially refugee children read in the new language. These measures promote literature as a key competence and ensure better long-term integration of the youngest members of our society.
