Severe thunderstorms threaten in Hesse: DWD warns of extreme weather!

All hell is currently breaking loose in Hesse when it comes to the weather. The German Weather Service (DWD) has declared level 2 of 4 for sometimes severe thunderstorms, particularly affecting the Main-Kinzig district and the Vogelsberg. The warning was already extended on July 14th at 4:39 p.m. and is valid until tonight, July 15th, at 6 p.m. Anyone wondering what lies ahead should be warned: lightning strikes, falling trees and hailstorms are just some of the dangers that lie ahead. The rain front moves like a typhoon from west to east, accompanied by strong wind gusts of up to 60 km/h.

Warnings of possible storms were also issued in the Rhine-Main area and the Giessen region. While there are currently no specific warnings active in Fulda, residents can still expect rainfall. Up to 25 liters of rain per square meter could fall in the affected region. The DWD is known for providing immediate information about the warning situation and often issues short-term district warnings in order to alert the population in good time. In acute weather, people need quick orientation, and hessenschau.de always offers up-to-date information.

Weather conditions and warning levels

As ndr.de explains, there are different warning levels that depend on the meteorological conditions. In Hesse there are currently warnings of gusts of wind and thunderstorms, with warning levels 1 to 4. Each level represents an increasing level of danger, from simple weather warnings to extreme weather conditions. Particularly tricky: frightening hurricane gusts of over 140 km/h, for example, fall into the highest level.

Good news for everyone who is in regions that are not affected by these thunderstorms: There are currently no warnings for around 15 districts and cities, including the city of Hanau and the Rheingau-Taunus district. These areas can relax for the time being, while their neighbors have to prepare for drastic weather events.

With every thunderstorm comes the potential for a surprise. It remains to be seen whether there will be more serious damage or whether nature will simply bring some excitement. One thing is certain: a good hand in preparing for such capricious weather can't do any harm. So stay careful and maybe stay at home while the thunderstorms move across the country.
