Future of energy: Free lecture on intelligent power supply in Marburg!

What's new in the area of energy supply? On November 20, 2025, everyone interested can look forward to an exciting lecture on the topic of “Intelligent power supply” in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district office. Dr. Sebastian Breker from EAM Netz GmbH will cross swords for us and provide a deep insight into modern technologies and innovative solutions in the energy sector. The free lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the conference center (Im Lichtenholz 60) and also offers the opportunity to exchange ideas after the lecture. The topic is more relevant than ever, because the transition to renewable energies is happening rapidly - just think of the many wind turbines, solar parks and photovoltaic systems that are sprouting up everywhere.

A look at the energy world shows that electricity used to flow almost exclusively from large power plants to households. Today, many households can produce their own electricity and feed it into the grid. However, the amount of electricity fed in depends heavily on the weather, as EAM reports. When there is a storm or bright sunshine, there is often more natural electricity available than we actually need. On the other hand, there are the cold winter days when we have to make do with little sun and little wind. These weather-related fluctuations in the power grid can pose major challenges, which is why smart power grids are in demand.

The benefits of smart grids

Intelligent power grids, also known as smart grids, are necessary to compensate for these fluctuations. Rapid weather changes can cause unpleasant surprises in the form of sudden disturbances, which in turn cause drastic increases or decreases in voltage. But the Smart Grid Architecture Model (SGAM) comes into play! It represents a framework that structures and supports the planning, development and analysis of intelligent power grids, explains the DKE. SGAM ensures that the various components and systems of a smart grid can interact seamlessly with each other.

The SGAM divides the Smart Grid into five levels that illuminate different aspects of energy supply:

  • Business Layer: Geschäftsprozesse und regulatorische Rahmenbedingungen
  • Function Layer: Funktionale Anforderungen und Use Cases
  • Information Layer: Datenmodelle und Informationsflüsse
  • Communication Layer: Kommunikationsprotokolle und Netzwerke
  • Component Layer: Physische Geräte und Systeme wie Sensoren und Aktoren

An example clearly illustrates these concepts: integrating a smart grid-capable wallbox in your own household shows how flexible and innovative the energy world already is today.

Event details

The lecture on November 20th is not only informative, but also designed so that all participants - whether on site or online via live stream - can benefit from the latest developments. Registration is required and must be made via the website by November 18, 2025 at the latest Marburg-Biedenkopf Adult Education Center take place. Places on site are limited, so register quickly so you don't miss a valuable information session!

The organizers are the district’s specialist services “District Development and Climate Protection” and “Digital Services and Open Government” in collaboration with the adult education center. This joint campaign shows how seriously we are taking the energy transition and what exciting opportunities it offers us.
