Fight for diversity: Demo We are the cityscape” in Offenbach!
Today, November 12, 2025, an impressive demonstration under the motto “We are the cityscape” took place in front of the Offenbach town hall, in which around 200 participants took a stand against discrimination and prejudice. The organizers of the event - Hibba Kauser from the SPD, Senem Bozdag from the Greens and Gizem Erinc-Ciftci from the Left - initiated this clear call for solidarity and visibility in response to recent statements by Friedrich Merz. With their campaign, they gave those affected a platform to loudly express their opinions and experiences and thus appeal to a broader public.
The speakers presented their messages both in speeches and in verse form, which gave the event a special touch. Gizem Erinc-Ciftci was critical of social prejudices and openly expressed her anger at ongoing discrimination in Germany. Her words echoed through the crowd and evoked many emotional reactions.
Experiences of the marginalized
A moving moment of the event was the appearance of Fares Elamir Saleh, who sits in a wheelchair. He spoke with impressive clarity about the everyday obstacles that people with disabilities face. Saleh emphasized that migrant people in particular often support him in his everyday life, which underlined the importance of solidarity in society.
But the demonstration was not without incident. Participants reported racist insults that were loud both on social media and directly during the event. For example, one voice shouted: “Fucking foreigners,” which once again highlighted the need for such meetings.
Personal stories and social realities
Hibba Kauser insisted on sharing her father's personal experiences with violence in Germany. She addressed the constant need to justify oneself and thereby made it clear how deeply rooted discrimination is in society. The event resulted in a powerful end that was both thought-provoking and aroused hope for solidarity.
This demonstration powerfully shows that the public expression of group feelings is not only a reaction to injustice, but also a sign of strength and community. Such public gatherings, also defined in the broadest sense as demonstrations, are essential for pointing out grievances and illustrating the reality of many people in Germany Merriam-Webster.
In times when racism and discrimination are expressed on platforms and in the streets, it is more important than ever to join together and send clear signals for an inclusive society op-online.
