Shock defeat for Kickers Offenbach: Trier turns up the heat in stoppage time!

A rather bitter Sunday for the Kickers Offenbach: On October 26, 2025, the team had to admit defeat 1-2 against Eintracht from Trier in their home stadium on Bieberer Berg. With this result, the team added a painful defeat to their previously strong record of four games without defeat and slipped to 12th place in the table, now with 19 points.

Coach Kristjan Glibo was understandably unhappy after the game. Particular criticism was directed at his players' defensive behavior, particularly the second goal conceded, which came in stoppage time. After the game, Glibo said: “The game wasn’t good for your self-confidence.” While the coach looked at the performance of his protégés, Eintracht Trier, under the leadership of coach Thomas Klasen, was able to take another step up in the table and is now in 7th place with 23 points.

Game history and highlights

There were several remarkable scenes in the game of the 14th round of the Regionalliga Südwest. After a tough first half that ended in 0-1 for the Triers, Jannis Held put the team from Trier in the lead with a header shortly before half-time. This cross, which led to the goal in the 45th + 2 minute, put the Kickers in trouble.

The second half again went without great highlights until Jonah Borsum equalized for Offenbach in the 73rd minute. The celebration was short-lived, however, because in the 85th minute referee Roy Dingler awarded a controversial penalty against the OFC. Luckily for the Kickers, goalkeeper Brinkies was able to parry Damjan Marceta's penalty and kept the hope of winning a point alive.

But then injury time came. In the last seconds of the game, more precisely in the 90th + 3 minute, Sven König made the final draw and scored the 1:2 for Trier, which finally crushed the home team.

Positioning and changes

The Kickers had to do without two important players right at the start of the game: Ron Berlinski was missing due to a yellow card suspension and Onur Ünlücifci was replaced due to suspected pubic bone inflammation. Boubacar Barry and Keanu Staude came into the starting line-up to replace them. Despite good performances, bad luck was on the part of Offenbach, who also honored Ronny Marcos before kick-off for his 200th competitive game in the OFC jersey. The many cards, including yellow cards for Mustafa and Staude on the Kickers side as well as Wrusch and König from Trier, reflect the heated atmosphere.

With this defeat, the question remains as to how the Kickers Offenbach can find their form again after this setback. The next opportunity to do this will be next week, when the OFC has to do it again on November 1st. The task is clear: a resurgence against upcoming opponents is essential to stop the negative trend.

The official audience was 6,198, who showed passion for their team despite the bitter defeat.

In summary, looking back on the game against Eintracht Trier is not a happy one. Offenbach must learn the lessons from this game and concentrate on the next challenges if they want to get out of the danger zone in the table.
