Theft in the REWE parking lot: tablet stolen from Chrysler!

An unpleasant event occurred in the parking lot of a REWE store in Schotten. On June 20, 2025, between 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., a tablet was stolen from a blue Chrysler that was parked in the parking lot. Fortunately, the car remained intact and no material damage was caused. The police in Lauterbach are now looking for clues about the theft, which is raising eyebrows in an increasingly uncertain time. Any information can be reported by calling 06641/971-0 or via the Hesse police online station, as reported by aktuell.meinestadt.de.

Unfortunately, such incidents are not isolated cases. A look at the current crime situation shows that thefts are becoming increasingly common. In 2022, a total of around 1.78 million thefts were recorded by the police in Germany, which represents an increase compared to the previous year. Thefts from and in motor vehicles were particularly common. This type of crime is particularly concerning because one often cannot be sure that one's car is safe, even during short errands. According to statista.com, there were over 235,000 cases of theft from vehicles in 2022 alone.

Recent trends in theft crime

There was also another incident recently on Röderstrasse in Schotten. On May 15, 2025, between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., registration plates were stolen from a gray Opel Corsa that was parked in front of a residential building. Here too, the police are looking for witnesses. Half-hearted security precautions often make it easy for perpetrators to strike, as the news shows.

In addition, on the same day, two car seats were stolen in Köddingen, which were stolen by an unknown perpetrator. These cases underscore the urgency to be vigilant and take safety warnings seriously. Awareness of traffic and property safety must increase among the population.

The time after the theft

The increasing number of thefts shows that protecting your own property is becoming increasingly challenging. Despite the clearance rate for various types of theft, which was only 31.1% for motor vehicle thefts in 2022, many victims are only left with the loss and the associated hassle. While more than 35% of all residential burglaries were committed in North Rhine-Westphalia, most thefts involved parked vehicles. It is therefore advisable to always be careful when parking and, if possible, not to leave valuable items in the car.

Police are appealing to all citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Only through collective action can security in our neighborhoods be strengthened.
