Sensational funding: 4 million euros for sports projects in Hesse!
Something is happening in the field of sport in Hesse! The state government invested a total of 3.978 million euros in 175 sports projects in the second quarter of 2025. This generous funding benefits both sports clubs and municipalities and is primarily intended to help small clubs that are often dependent on financial support. Osthessen-News reports that the funding will be used in particular to purchase new sports equipment, to secure training and game operations and for youth work.
Sports Minister Diana Stolz emphasizes the social importance of sport - especially for the volunteers who work tirelessly for the clubs. This willingness to work is recognized and promoted in Hesse through various programs. Interestingly, the sports club not only acts as a place for sporting activities, but also plays a central role in the integration and inclusion of people from different social classes according to hessen.de.
Funding in detail
The funds are generated, among other things, from lottery funds, and there are numerous projects that can benefit from the funding. In the Fulda district in particular, 20 clubs receive subsidies. Examples from this region include the Blau-Weiß Petersberg tennis club, which receives 10,000 euros for the renovation of the showers and toilet facilities, and the Rengersfeld shooting club, which can also afford 10,000 euros for digital shooting ranges. The 1920 Rothemann gymnastics and sports club will also receive 7,700 euros for an LED floodlight system.
In Hersfeld-Rotenburg, six clubs are on the funding list, such as the 1912/30 Mecklar gymnastics and sports club, which will receive 4,500 euros for roof renovation. The Rot-Weiß Rotenburg tennis club will receive 2,100 euros to repair its clubhouse. Audiovisual sports projects or maintenance measures are also on the list and help to improve the infrastructure and quality of the facilities.
In the Main-Kinzig district, an application for the replacement of an indoor and outdoor swimming pool was even approved, which is being subsidized with a whopping 1,000,000 euros. The Neuberg Tennis Club is also pleased to receive 30,000 euros to set up a padel court. The Vogelsberg district is no less active: nine clubs, for example, receive 700,000 euros for the renovation of the Erlenstadion in Alsfeld or 8,600 euros for the renovation of the riding hall gang by the Herbstein riding and driving club.
Appreciation for volunteers
But it's not just financial support that's important. The social appreciation of volunteer work also plays a significant role. Around every second person in Hesse is active on a voluntary basis, be it in sports clubs or in other areas such as the THW, fire brigade or cultural institutions reports the Hesse State Sports Association. The political parties in Hesse agree on the need to promote volunteer work and have already created some incentives to improve the framework conditions.
Whether through free or discounted public transport tickets for volunteers or the development of an app that offers nationwide discounts for the volunteer card, it is clear that a lot is being done in Hesse to support volunteer work. Sport is not only a passion, but also a valuable part of social life that needs to be promoted.
