SPD Alsfeld: Save the old town and modernize the train station – new election program!

In Alsfeld, everything is currently centered around the upcoming local elections on March 15, 2026. The SPD has presented its new election program, which focuses heavily on the modernization of the train station area and the preservation of the historic old town. As the Giessen General reported, the 5-point program was unanimously approved at the general meeting in the Altenburg village community center.

The SPD's main goal is a return to city government, which has been dominated by the CDU and UWA for over ten years. The role of the UWA, which is described by the SPD as a “political appendage” without its own profile, is viewed particularly critically. The SPD chairman Jürgen-Udo Pfeiffer warns of dangers for the historic old town and calls for concrete measures to be taken to preserve it. The SPD is also planning a citizens' meeting to discuss the future of the old town.

Focus on sustainable development

A central component of the election program is the demand for a more attractive design of the station area. The aim is to improve the connection between the districts and the core city as part of the ISEK concept and to set up additional charging points for e-mobility. The SPD is also committed to promoting start-ups and using existing vacant properties to strengthen the region's economic situation.

Another important aspect is the health care structures. The SPD intends to keep an eye on the construction of the new district hospital and to expand nursing capacities. The creation of a modern medical center is also one of the long-term goals.

The team behind the choice

The SPD list for the upcoming elections is headed by Achim Quehl and includes a total of 29 candidates, including Angelika Schäfer, Tevin Ron Pettis-Steinhauer and other committed members. The entire catalog is designed to improve living and housing conditions for all generations in Alsfeld.

Another important point is the conversion of the energy supply in the old town to renewable sources. This initiative is seen as a step towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly urban development.

With a mix of forward-looking ideas and a clear commitment to the city's historically grown structure, the SPD Altenburg not only wants to convince voters, but also initiate a lively discussion about the city's future.

For the SPD, the motto remains: Commitment to the citizens in order to make the old town and the entire community attractive and worth living in for future generations.
