The end of an era is approaching for the popular outdoor specialist store “Outdoor & More” in Burgwald-Bottendorf in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. As the HNA reports, the store will finally close its doors on December 31, 2025. A big clearance sale is already underway, with all items being offered at a 30 percent discount while stocks last. Owners express gratitude on their website and justify the closure with the desire to retire.
The traditional store is particularly known for its wide selection of leisure clothing, hiking and camping equipment as well as specific clothing, ranging from Bundeswehr and guild clothing to professional and US clothing. Many loyal customers expressed their sadness about the closure on social media and thanked them for their years of support.
Another loss in the region
But the closure of Outdoor & More isn't the only worrying sign in the local economy. The ReiseShop in Kiel, which will close at the end of January 2026 after more than 41 years, is also affected. As the Travel shop website reveals, dramatic changes in shopping behavior are the main reason for this step. Many customers use on-site advice, but buy their products online at a cheaper price.
Additionally, the company reports a lack of respect for local retailers and difficulty finding a successor. The staff is overworked and suffers from health problems. The ReiseShop is now also drawing conclusions and offering discounts on the entire range in the coming weeks. Vouchers must be redeemed by December 31, 2025.
