Waldeck starts Greentrails: 12 kilometers of adventure on Lake Edersee!

On Friday afternoon, an exciting new chapter for mountain bikers opened in Waldeck: Twelve kilometers of newly designed bike trails around the picturesque Edersee were officially inaugurated. The aim is not only to offer sporting challenges, but also to promote unique natural experiences in the region. The festive act took place on the Waldeck market square, accompanied by a number of regional representatives, including District Administrator Jürgen van der Horst and Mayor Nicolas Havel.

The new trail system offers three varied loops with a total of 33 kilometers - including the special twelve kilometers of single trails. These lead through the idyllic Reiherbachtal, where gentle slopes and numerous curves await bikers. A highlight is the so-called theme trail, which provides exciting information about the Edersee. Anyone who would like to improve their driving technique can do so at special activity stations. The routes in detail are as follows:

The trails at a glance

Name of the trail length Altitude meters
Waldecker Loop 8.6km 167 m
Sachsenhausen round 2.6km 130 m
Veltum Pink Loop variant 271 m

The entrances to the trails are easily accessible in Waldeck, Nieder-Werbe and Sachsenhausen. What is particularly pleasing is that the construction of the trails created a compensation area of 97,000 square meters to support the project's nature-friendly approach. This close collaboration between planners, construction companies, administration and conservationists shows how important the region is to protecting its valuable nature.

Investments and future prospects

Looking to the future, District Administrator van der Horst announced that he plans to invest around one million euros in further Greentrail program projects in 2025, with the aim of completing at least two new projects annually. Waldeck is not only relying on the local offering, but is also planning to open additional trails in Diemelstadt in the fall, which will expand the project.

If you would like to explore the new trails yourself, you have the option of taking guided tours. This combination of sporting activity and the breathtaking nature around the Edersee will bring great joy not only to bike enthusiasts, but also to nature lovers. With impressive views, such as Waldeck Castle, every ride will be an unforgettable experience for everyone who loves mountain biking. Finally, the solitude of the trails in the Kellerwald is particularly attractive, as you can be out in nature undisturbed by large hiking groups.

The opening of the Greentrails is an important step for Waldeck, which not only improves the local infrastructure, but also helps sport and nature combine in a harmonious way. An attractive offer awaits everyone who would like to let off some energy in nature and enjoy the landscape at the same time.
