Margarethe Weis: 104 years full of life and wisdom in Wölfersheim!

In the heart of Wölfersheim, the community is celebrating a very special occasion today: Margarethe Weis, the oldest resident, is turning 104 years old. Born on January 12, 1921 in the Spessart village of Bieber, she has lived in the Wetterau since 1938. This remarkable life journey, spanning well over a century, is a testament to their resilience and adaptability.

Margarethe, who grew up as one of four siblings, spent her childhood in modest circumstances; her father was a miner, her mother a housewife. In 1938 she moved to Bad Nauheim to work as a “house daughter”. The memories of the Second World War, during which she witnessed incendiary bombs in Bad Nauheim and courageously helped put out fires, remain vivid in her memory. Their fears of the bombing raids are part of their eventful history.

A life full of experiences

Margarethe's life took a happy turn in 1948 with the birth of her son. She worked from 1958 to 1981 at the Hessian State Spa in Bad Nauheim. Interestingly, she once encountered Elvis Presley in a queue but didn't quite find his music to her liking. Health is her top priority: she doesn't smoke, doesn't drink alcohol and keeps herself mentally fit by doing crossword puzzles.

Her life motto “Dro and Davo”, which means doing things immediately, is probably the key to her long and fulfilling life. She advises younger people to be faithful to their partners and not to appropriate other people's property. She generally seems to live by these principles: satisfaction with her own life is of great importance to her. It's fascinating that she doesn't think much about the future, but lives in the here and now.
