1860 Munich: Drama in Wiesbaden – time for changes!
Last weekend was anything but a walk in the park for TSV 1860 Munich. In the meeting with Wehen Wiesbaden, the team had to admit defeat by a narrow 1-0. A dramatic end came with the decisive goal in the 87th minute by Moritz Flotho, who once again gave the Lions a run for their money. Like the sports reporting from dieblaue24 documented, the priority is now on making changes to the team in order to save the season.
The player who stood out among the supporters for his strong performance was Rene Vollath, who shone with a grade of 2.5. The goalkeeper was a reliable support, while the lion's defense was rather questionable. Despite a motivated initial phase, the defense struggled as the game progressed. There were blatant mistakes, especially in the first half, which Wiesbaden took advantage of. A bad pass from Leroy Kwadwo in his own penalty area in the 23rd minute led to a botched attack by the Lions, followed by another major mistake in the 38th minute.
First half disappointed
The first half was characterized by defensive weaknesses and hectic duels. 1860 Munich went into the game motivated, wanting to break the old Oktoberfest record from 1998, but in the 42nd minute the score was 0-2 thanks to Nick Bätzner after a dribbling attack by Thijmen Goppel. It was only shortly before the half-time whistle that Julian Guttau scored the goal to make it 1-2.
The second half started unpromisingly. Wiesbaden increased the lead to 1:3 after a corner in the 54th minute. Despite the setbacks, it remained exciting: Patrick Hobsch brought the lions closer again with a usable mistake by the Wiesbaden goalkeeper in the 73rd minute, but the equalizer would not come back.
The fan engagement and the coaching question
The support of the supporters, who stood by the team with 1,405 lions in the stadium, was described as rather tired. Particularly missed were the ultras, who were not present due to a car accident. As a result, support for the players was severely affected. The coach, Alper Kayabunar, also received a mixed rating (grade 4.0) and it seems as if there has been no significant improvement so far after the coaching change.
Former player Stefan Reisinger was critical of the team's current performance and emphasized the urgency of changes. The mood among the fans and the team is tense; the pressure is increasing from week to week. The season can still be repaired, but the clock is ticking. The Lions now have to find solutions as quickly as possible to avert the impending fall into the lower echelons of the table. BR.de reports that a real change is longed for.
