Adventure with the kissing ball: a journey of discovery through Ammerland!

Mobile in nature! Anne Willmes discovers the beauties of northwest Lower Saxony in her wooden mini camper, which was lovingly named “Knutschkugel”. This journey, which takes you from one place to another while camping, begins at the picturesque Dangast am Jadebusen, where the spa park and campsite are located directly by the sea. From here we head 30 kilometers south to Ammerland, an area known for its magnificent rhododendron cultivation and extensive tree nurseries. How WDR reports that Anne always finds a comfortable place for her camping trailer in the evenings, even if parking the trailer is sometimes a bit of a challenge.

What at first appears to be a simple journey quickly becomes an adventure. On the way, Anne discovers a farm with a strawberry field where you can pick the sweet fruits yourself. There's also no room for boredom: she visits an amusement park and browses through a historic corner shop, where she buys loose candies and regional delicacies such as Ammerland smoked eel. Fresh potatoes from the vending machine also contribute to the cozy camping life. She ends her day with a bike ride around the Zwischenahner Meer, followed by a visit to an open-air museum.

Experiences in Ammerland

Her sporty side isn't neglected either: at Nethener See she shows her ambition while water skiing and at Zwischenahner Meer she meets the talented 14-year-old world-class sailor Clara Bonhagen, which is sure to be a topic of conversation.

Rhododendrons and nurseries

The rhododendron has a long tradition here, as it was planted in the landscape park of Rastede Castle as early as 1800. Over 1,000 different species bloom in Germany's largest rhododendron forest, making it a paradise for plant lovers. Another exciting stop is a tree nursery based on Japanese horticulture, where Anne even has the opportunity to shape a tree herself - an experience that she will certainly have fond memories of.
