Bernd Evers returns as head of Speelkoppel Rastede!
Things are getting lively on stage again in Rastede! Bernd Evers, an experienced theater man with over 50 years of experience, returns as leader and director of the Low German theater group Speelkoppel. At 77, Evers brings back not only his extensive know-how but also his passion for theater after taking a year off. Evers feels particularly connected to the Speelkoppel, the oldest theater group in Ammerland, which has existed since 1922. His return shows that the love of the stage and Low German culture is very popular in Rastede.
Evers has been active in the theater world since the 1970s and brought his talent to Oldenburg before joining the Speelkoppel Rastede in 2000. From 2010 to 2022 he worked as Speelbaas, i.e. manager. During his time, performances traditionally took place in the fall. But the new team brought a breath of fresh air and introduced the Rasteder Theater Spring in 2023. Now, after his successor Werner Taube moved to Bad Zwischenahn, Evers is once again following in the manager's footsteps.
A new chapter for the Speelkoppel
As he makes his comeback, Evers plans to meet with the players soon to discuss upcoming performances for 2026. It is currently still unclear whether the Speelkoppel will continue to play in the spring or again in the fall. There is a lot to talk about as some older players who have not been active recently are also considering making a comeback. However, Bernd Evers is clear that he will take over the management and direction, but only wants to be on stage himself in an emergency.
The Speelkoppel is also looking for new players who would like to become part of this lively theater community. Anyone interested, whether with or without theater experience, is warmly invited to find their place. No one is excluded for the joy of playing together, and support is offered in learning Low German. If you would like to take part, you can register via the Speelkoppel website or stop by the next regulars' table.
Tickets and performances
Tickets for the performances are sold exclusively at the mini market on Anton-Günter-Straße in Rastede, and numbered seats have been available since the 2019 season. There are 96 seats available per performance in the Mühlenhof, two of which are specifically for wheelchair users. A note about the participation of wheelchair users when purchasing tickets is necessary to enable better planning.
With the return of Bernd Evers to the management of the Speelkoppel, the Low German tradition is coming to life again in Rastede and shows that the theater is firmly rooted here. The group's commitment to new talent and the invitation to everyone who enjoys theater promises exciting times for Low German culture in Ammerland.
