Daylily magic in the Gardens Park: Thousands of flowers enchant Bad Zwischenahn!

In picturesque Bad Zwischenahn the daylilies are currently blooming in all their splendor and are drawing visitors to the gardens. With over 600 different varieties displaying their colorful splendor this week, the park is a true Eldorado for garden lovers and flower lovers. But the special thing about these flowers: The flowers of daylilies are real “short-term guests” and wither after just one day NDR reported.

The beautiful plants are cared for by a dedicated group of volunteers. Gisela Vogt and her colleagues work in the park from 8 a.m., where they lend a hand to remove the withered flowers and thus make room for new buds. This missionary work contributes to the preservation of one of the largest collections of daylilies in the world. Because only with a lot of dedication and commitment can the diversity - of over 100,000 registered varieties worldwide - really come into its own.

Daylilies in competition and sale

Especially on July 7, 2024, there will be an exciting event on the topic of daylilies in the Gardens Park. Details about stocks à la “Moments of Happiness” will be on the agenda when park managing director Christian Wandscher auctions off modern daylilies at 11 a.m. The proceeds from this auction will benefit the park GABOT communicates.

Visitors can look forward to expert tours of the daylily rondel, which are offered at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Originally created from a small area during the State Garden Show in 2002, the roundel has developed into a real eye-catcher thanks to its popularity. Today it contains 550 plants, including 149 historic varieties, and was designated a “Historic Garden” by the American Hemerocallis Society in 2007.

My beautiful garden gives valuable tips: Ingrown clumps should be divided and transplanted in autumn or early spring. When planting, it is important to plant the perennials so deep that the transition between roots and leaf compartments is well covered with soil.

The designer of the daylily garden, Hanne Rupp, also maintains international seed exchanges and works actively with countries such as Poland. Her passion for daylilies has contributed not only to the development of the garden, but also to the formation of a network in which the members of the daylily group are active.

With its over 40 model gardens, the Park of Gardens offers a wide range of flowers and plants to view and invites schools to hold workshops on various topics in the summer months.
