On Friday evening there was a tragic traffic accident on Godensholter Straße in Westerstede that cost the life of a 47-year-old woman from Godensholt. As nwzonline.de reports, a 20-year-old driver from Barßel got into oncoming traffic for reasons that are still unclear and collided head-on with the vehicle 47 year olds. The impact was so violent that both vehicles overturned.
The 20-year-old's car also crashed into a tree and ended up on its side. The 47-year-old's car remained on its roof in a meadow next to the road. Unfortunately, the woman died at the scene of the accident, while the 20-year-old was seriously injured and had to be taken to hospital. The police estimate the total damage caused to be around 50,000 euros. The state road had to be closed in both directions for five hours for rescue, investigation and cleaning work. Road users are asked to contact the police in Westerstede on 04488/8330 if they witnessed the accident.
