What is behind this project? The Bundeswehr is currently examining more than 180 locations across Germany that are closed or planned for sale for options for reactivation. The Blücher barracks is one of 187 properties that are under the administration of the Federal Real Estate Agency (Bima). A letter from Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) ordered a halt to the conversion of these properties and asked Bima to suspend conversion and exploitation efforts in order to be able to use the land for military purposes again.
Impact on the city of Aurich

However, returning the Blücher barracks to military use would mean that existing usage concepts would have to be reassessed. The municipality has already acquired land in the south of the area and renovated the sewer system and roads there.
