Tractor fire in Aurich-Plaggenburg: Fire brigade in action!
In Aurich-Plaggenburg there was a fire on an agricultural property on November 1, 2025, which put a tractor at the center of the event. The fire department was alerted at 8:30 a.m. when the fire broke out in the interior of the tractor, which was already parked on the side of the road. The fire brigades from Plaggenburg and Sandhorst were quickly on site and deployed a respiratory protection team to extinguish the fire with a jet pipe. Thanks to the quick response, additional firefighters who arrived were able to cancel their approach, which was only necessary a quarter of an hour after the alarm was raised. After extinguishing work was completed, the emergency services used a thermal imaging camera to check whether the flames had actually been extinguished. Finally, the scene was handed over to the police. After half an hour, the operation was successfully completed and around 30 firefighters had made an important contribution.
What could have happened? The source of the fire puzzles some, but similar incidents show that tractors are often left unattended while working and dangerous accidents can occur. For example in Oberrakitsch, where a tractor caught fire for an unknown reason while working in the fields on April 7, 2025. The driver was able to get to safety in time while residents tried to contain the fire with hand fire extinguishers. Here, 17 firefighters were involved in a two-hour operation to carry out follow-up extinguishing work with heavy breathing apparatus and high-pressure pipes after the fire broke out, before they were finally able to report “fire out”.
In-depth investigations
In both cases, determining the cause of the fire plays an important role. The police were involved in both Aurich-Plaggenburg and Oberrakitsch to investigate the exact causes. These incidents illustrate how important it is to act quickly in the event of fires on farms and that preventive measures are also necessary to avoid fires.
Both operations show the effective cooperation between the fire departments and the valuable support from residents, who can often help quickly in critical moments. A well-organized alarm system and the preparedness of the emergency services are crucial to quickly bringing fires under control and avoiding major damage. Special precautions and training for firefighting on agricultural machinery could also be beneficial.
The unpredictability of such operations should not be underestimated, but with solid measures and a strong community spirit, the fire department and citizens are well on the way to overcoming such challenges.
