View from the town hall tower: historical tours and opera against a breathtaking backdrop!

From August 23, 2025, Cologne residents and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking “view from the town hall tower”. The public tour promises not only a sporting challenge - after all, 161 steps have to be climbed - but also varied stories from Braunschweig's past. These tours take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until September 7, 2025. The tour starts at 7:30 p.m. from the town hall at the German Unity Square 1 and offers an exciting hour full of anecdotes paired with a panoramic view of the city from a height of 61 meters. The price of 10 euros for adults (5 euros for schoolchildren, students and children up to 17 years of age) makes this event an attractive offer for the whole family. Tickets are online at www.braunschweig.de/sf-rathausturm or purchase it at the tourist information center. The organizer is Braunschweig Stadtmarketing GmbH, which lets the city shine in a new light.

But that's not all that Braunschweig has to offer at this time. Parallel to the tours, an open-air performance of Giuseppe Verdi's “La traviata” will take place on the castle square - a cultural highlight that visitors should not miss. The premiere is August 23, 2025 at 7:30 p.m., with further performances until September 10. The Braunschweig State Theater under the musical direction of Srba Dinić and directed by Beatrice Müller is responsible for this magnificent production. The main roles will be played by Ekaterina Kudryavtseva and Andrei Danilov as well as other talented artists. Tickets are already available, both at the theater box office and online.

Cultural diversity and tradition

The combination of historical rise and contemporary opera makes for an exciting experience in Braunschweig. The city, which was an important Hanseatic city between the 13th and 17th centuries, regularly celebrates its past with guided tours and events. Hanseatic Day recently took place on May 20th and 21st, 2023, during which visitors were offered three city tours on the topics of Hanseatic League and Mumme. These events aimed to learn about the city's Hanseatic history and featured a tasting of Mumme products, which have always been an important part of the local culture.

The historical setting makes the tours and performances even more appealing. The view from the town hall tower and the impressive production of “La Traviata” combine to create an unforgettable experience for everyone who visits the city. The tourist information center also provides all the information you need to get the most out of the events in Braunschweig.

For younger people and those interested in culture

Another appealing aspect of the upcoming events is the 100 youth project, which includes musical theater workshops and tours. Schools have the opportunity to apply and take part in this cultural education initiative until June 2nd. The final highlight will be an invitation to a performance of “La traviata”, which is intended to give the young participants an unforgettable experience in the theater. Braunschweig report highlights how important cultural education is for the city and its youth.
