Braunschweig is celebrating: Molleker and Petkovic reach the main field of the BRAWO OPEN!

On the BTHC grounds in Braunschweig's Bürgerpark, everything is currently centered around the ATP 125 Challenger tournament, the BRAWO OPEN 2025. The excitement on the court is now palpable, because the first winners have been announced and the best players in the tournament have qualified for the main round. On Monday, July 7, 2025, six exciting qualifying matches were played and the first match of the main draw began as the weather alternated between sun and rain showers.

The German players Rudolf “Rudi” Molleker and Mika Petkovic presented themselves impressively under the eyes of numerous fans who had traveled. Molleker, aged 24 and currently ranked 347th in the ATP rankings, prevailed in the match against Gonzalo Bueno from Peru. With a hard-fought 4:6, 6:1, 6:4, he secured a place in the main draw and was delighted with winning the home tournament, where he had already competed in previous years. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Petkovic convinced himself to win against the Lithuanian player Ricardas Berankis 7:6, 6:3 and thus also get his ticket to the main round. Petkovic, currently ranked 1,097, is pleased with his stable performance and reaching this round.

Confidence and support

A total of seven German players will compete in the main field, including Molleker and Petkovic, Yannick Hanfmann (ATP 138), Justin Engel (ATP 235) and Diego Dedura (ATP 362). These players could qualify either through wildcards or through their position in the ATP rankings. Norbert Gombos from Slovakia, currently number 328 in the world, is also in the main round. His opponent Toby Kodat, who plays for the USA, cannot compete due to injury.

Another highlight of the first days of the tournament was the United Kids Foundations Family Day, which offered a lot of entertainment on Sunday. The sporting start was livened up with attractions such as Super Mario and various activities for families and offered the spectators a welcome change.

There are 16 games planned for tomorrow in the singles main draw, in addition to the qualifying final. The matches continue at the BRAWO CENTER COURT at 11:00 a.m. Alex Molcan from Slovakia will take the field against Daniel Masur and Mika Petkovic against Ricardas Berankis. Molleker and Gonzalo Bueno will meet on court 11. A first main draw match starts at around 2:00 p.m. with Mariano Navone against Ignacio Buse.

Fans can look forward to exciting matches, while the weather forecast promises temperatures of around 24°C and light winds, making for perfect conditions to watch the tennis pros. Despite the changeable weather, the first games showed promising performances and the spectators will certainly experience further highlights in the coming days.
