Violent storms hit Lower Saxony: Danger to life from lightning!
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, a strong area of thunderstorms caused unsettled times in parts of our region. According to the information from Celle press The German Weather Service (DWD) issued an official severe weather warning late on Saturday evening. This warning level 2, which is classified as “striking weather”, was valid from 11:36 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and primarily affected the southwestern part of Lower Saxony.
Many people received frightening reports as violent thunderstorms developed with gusts of up to 65 km/h and heavy rain of between 15 and 25 liters per square meter. Small-grain hail also occurred locally. The authorities warned urgently about the dangers: lightning strikes could pose an acute threat to life, and falling branches and flying objects increased the risks for passers-by and road users.
Take special care on the roads
Extreme caution was required even when driving at night; Aquaplaning and poor visibility pose significant risks. The DWD recommended that citizens stay in closed buildings during the storm phase, secure tents and mobile structures and avoid endangered areas. Fortunately, the situation calmed down again in the early hours of the morning and there was no major damage. However, some fire departments in the Celle district were deployed to handle smaller operations.
This weather situation shows us how quickly thunderstorm fronts can develop, especially on warm early summer days. It is therefore urgent to take a look at the weather forecasts in the coming days. Follow current warnings closely to be prepared for anything.
Severe weather warnings also in other regions
Some shooters were creative - in Sommersell, for example, the king came to the parade by car, while in Delbrück-Anreppen the parade was initially canceled but ultimately held in a shortened format on the festival site. Things took a similar turn in Delbrück-Westenholz, where the shooters had to move straight into the marquee.
In times of extreme weather, the contact points are also like this Severe Weather Center of great importance. They provide an overview of severe weather warnings and provide important information about upcoming weather events, from thunderstorms to storm forecasts. The information is available around the clock so that people and animals can be warned in good time.
So stay alert and well informed - the weather situation can change quickly! Pay attention to current alerts and protect yourself and your loved ones during these uncertain times.
